Our interns and externals are deeply integrated into the OCC-IC team and have the opportunity to work on a variety of content-related tasks.
Interns and externs work in a number of different areas within the IC-OCC to ensure that they gain a general understanding of the different facets of the Office`s practice. You`ll work with a variety of lawyers in the office, on tasks ranging from quick projects to in-depth research and writing work in the longer term. The Office of the Chief Legal Counsel for International Trade (OCC-IC) provides legal support to the Department of Commerce, specifically the Department`s International Trade Administration (ITA), including the three ITA divisions, Enforcement and Compliance, Global Markets, and Industry and Analysis. The ITA`s mission is to create wealth by strengthening the competitiveness of U.S. industry, promoting trade and investment, and ensuring fair trade and compliance with trade laws and agreements. OCC-IC lawyers work on current legal issues such as e-commerce and digital trade and privacy, anti-corruption, foreign investment, trade facilitation, government procurement and international standards. OCC IC lawyers regularly work with U.S. policymakers, Department of Commerce and ITA officials, interagency legal partners, and international colleagues to advance the ITA`s work, including participating in international trade negotiations and supporting efforts to monitor compliance with these commitments. Together, our team works on legal solutions that enable ITA to advance the U.S.
economy and strengthen the global competitiveness of U.S. industry. The Office of the Chief Counsel of the Economic Development Authority (OCC/EDA) serves the legal needs of CDA, the agency that leads the federal economic development agenda, through strategic grant-based investments.
