Mauerpark Berlin Graffiti Legal
The German Democratic Republic (GDR; GDR) was proclaimed on October 7, 1949. On that day, the USSR put an end to the Soviet military government, which had ruled the Soviet occupation zone since the end of the war, and handed over legal authority [19] to the Provisional People`s Chamber under the new constitution of the GDR, which came into force on that day. Until 1955, however, the Soviets retained considerable legal control over the GDR state through the Soviet Control Commission, including state governments, and maintained a presence in various administrative, military, and secret police structures of the GDR. [20] [21] Even after the restoration of GDR jurisdiction in 1955, the Soviet Union continued to retain considerable influence over administration and legislation in the GDR through the Soviet embassy and the implicit threat of violence that could be exerted by the still large Soviet military presence in the GDR, with which protests in the GDR in June 1953 were bloodily suppressed. [22] Anyone who has ever visited Berlin can confirm that graffiti can be found absolutely everywhere in the German capital. That`s why the city is so unique, because because of the impressive amount of graffiti that can be found on walls, building facades, rooftops, trains and subways, graffiti is everywhere in Berlin. You can also find many legally painted graffiti in Berlin commissioned by the city itself, by individuals or companies, by graffiti artists or by advertising agencies that use graffiti as a means of communication to reach a different audience from the more traditional advertisements that are broadcast, for example, on television or on posters on the street. In 1955, the Soviets gave the GDR authority over the civil movement in Berlin and handed control over to a regime not recognized in the West. [33] The GDR initially granted “visits” to allow its inhabitants access to the Federal Republic. However, after the defection of large numbers of East Germans (known as the Flight from the Republic) under this regime, the new East German state restricted virtually all travel to the West in 1956. [31] The East German Soviet ambassador Mikhail Pervukhin noted that “the existence of an open and essentially uncontrolled border between the socialist and capitalist worlds in Berlin unwittingly leads the population to a comparison between the two parts of the city, which is unfortunately not always in favor of democratic East Berlin.” [34] Nothing better reflects the original appearance of the wall than a very short section of Bernauer Straße, which is connected to the Berlin Wall Documentation Centre. [122] Other remains are severely damaged by souvenir hunters. Fragments of the wall were taken away and some were sold worldwide.
These fragments, which appear with or without a certificate of authenticity, are now an integral part of the eBay online auction service as well as in German souvenir shops. Today, the east side is covered with graffiti, which did not exist when the wall was guarded by armed soldiers of the GDR. Previously, graffiti only appeared on the west side. Along some tourist areas of the city center, the city government marked the location of the old wall with a series of cobblestones in the street. In most places, only the “first” wall is marked, except near Potsdamer Platz, where the section of both walls is marked, giving visitors an idea of the size of the barrier system. Jahn stadium in Mauerpark, Berlin`s famous Hall of Fame, describes how long it can last. On 20 September 2012, I visited the citizens` office of the district council of Pankow Zürn-Kasztantowicz (SPD). She wondered how we got along with her. I told him about my laborious search for a contact person and the reference to his office hours in a local newspaper. I explained to him the unsatisfactory situation of not being able to legally spray into the Mauerpark Hall of Fame. In addition, additional wall surfaces are required. Why is the Mauerpark wall, which has been in use for years, not finally legalised? mauerpark.info/kultur/graffiti-legal It says: The wall of the park is LEGAL! So don`t worry, just paint 😉 The whole famous Berlin Wall has not been demolished. Years after German reunification, the remaining parts are official monuments. Part of it runs along the Mauerpark, which attracts large crowds on weekends. The wall overlooking the park can be painted freely. This is by far the most historically important graffiti spot you can find. Despite the general policy of benevolent negligence of the GDR government, vandals were known to be persecuted and even arrested in the outer strip.
In 1986, defector and political activist Wolfram Hasch and four other defectors were standing inside the outer strip that disfigured the wall when GDR personnel came out of one of the hidden doors to arrest them. All but hashish fled to the western sector. Hash himself was arrested, dragged through the door into the death gang and later convicted of illegally crossing the border outside the wall. [75] Graffiti artist Thierry Noir reported that he was often persecuted by GDR soldiers. [76] While some graffiti artists were expelled from the outer tape, others, such as Keith Haring, were apparently tolerated. [77] This one earns a place in the top 5 because it is one of the oldest officially legal graffiti walls we know. It runs along Tumblingerstraße in Munich.
