American Legion Scholarship Requirements
If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, check the links to the scholarships for eligibility requirements, deadlines and application forms. The ALA supports various scholarship programs that benefit veterans, descendants of veterans, and the American Legion family. Investing in the education of our young people is investing in the future of our country. You can help ALA donate education by donating to our scholarship funds. Since 2014, the American Legion Auxiliary has helped more than 150 students pursue their dreams by awarding them annual scholarships. In 2019, we distributed more than $130,000 to deserving youth. Any Veterans Affairs Canada medical centre may nominate a Veterans Affairs Canada Volunteer Services (VAVS) volunteer to be considered for this scholarship. The American Legion Auxiliary believes that the more knowledge our youth gain, the better the citizens they become. Nowadays, paying for a college education is becoming a heavier financial burden for students and their families. According to the College Board, a student who took out loans in 2017 left a four-year public university with debts of more than $26,000 and jumped to more than $32,000 for a private university. As the cost of university attendance rises rapidly, this number is expected to increase.
That`s why the American Legion Auxiliary is so committed to helping students continue their education through scholarships. The American Legion offers a range of scholarships and other resources to support youth in their pursuit of higher education. There are opportunities for everyone, including parents of veterans and participants in Legion programs. “I couldn`t feel more honored to be a recipient of your Spirit of Youth Scholarship. This award has been an absolute blessing to me and my family. This allowed me to continue my nursing studies at the school of my dreams without financially harming my family. I am incredibly grateful for this donation from the charity every day. – Allison Horne, ALA Spirit of Youth Fellow.
