Legal Aid Association of California`s Free California MCLE: (Self-Learning) The California Legal Aid Association maintains a free archive of its prior MCLE-accredited legal training on its website. Includes ethics, jurisdictional issues and the elimination of bias courses. If you see them, consider making a donation! WestLegalEdCenter – most of the CLEs offered by this site are not free, but you can access a free program using the link on the “Try a Free Free Program” homepage. WestLegalEdCenter also offers CLE scholarships for unemployed or underemployed lawyers, legal aid and attorneys, paralegals and lawyers in private practice who wish to develop skills to assist in pro bono work. Fastcase – This legal research database offers free online webinars on legal research eligible for MCLE loans, in addition to some non-CLE webinars. ABA Ethics20/20 Update – ABA Ethics 20/20`s Study on the Impact of Technology and Globalization on the Legal Profession and How It Affects California Lawyers (1.5 hours of MCLE ethics participatory credit) The Office of Professional Competence contributes online to MCLE self-study articles at the State Bar CLE Store. Each element offers one hour of ethical credit. Check out the links below for more details on how to access these articles. MCLEZ – another online education company, MCLEZ offers one hour of free CLE. Registration is required to access the free course.
PLI Pro Bono MCLE – The Practie Law Institute offers a free MCLE program for legal lawyers, pro bono lawyers, prosecutors and lawyers over the age of 65. To access this program, you must be eligible and submit an application. San Diego Paralegal Association – regularly hosts events open to anyone involved in the free MCLE, such as their free monthly virtual lunch with leaders program. Contra Costa County Bar Association`s Free California MCLE: (Self-Learning) Includes ethics, jurisdictional issues, and eliminating bias courses. Insurance companies – Some legal error insurance companies offer free online ECM opportunities to their insured customers. Check with your insurance company to see if they offer this service. Above the Law – this legal news website charges a fee for most of their CLE offerings, but offers a free self-study course every quarter of the year that is approved for loans in California. The State Bar Association establishes and monitors compliance with MCLE requirements for California licensees. Currently, lawyers are required to complete 25 hours of CME every three years. These hours must include training in legal ethics, jurisdictional issues and bias elimination. Federal Bar Association of San Diego – FBA San Diego offers on-demand MCLE webinars with attendance credits on their website for only $9.99 each and provides a certificate of attendance upon request. Subsequently, California State Bar Rule 2.72 relating to MCLE requirements for lawyers was amended effective September 24, 2020 to include this new implied bias training requirement.
