The data and methodologies presented in Global Insights on Access to Justice are the culmination of an extensive two-year pilot and review process and reflect consultations with governments, multilateral organizations, local civil society organizations and academics from 17 countries. While results vary from country to country, this study shows that legal problems are pervasive and most people don`t turn to courts and lawyers to solve these problems. The data also shows that legal problems have a negative impact on people`s lives, with more than 4 in 10 respondents reporting experiencing social, economic or health difficulties due to their problem. In addition, this study highlights the variety of barriers people face in meeting their judicial needs, including low legal capacity, problems accessing appropriate resources, and the cost of the resolution process. The WJP estimates that these barriers prevent 1.4 billion people from meeting their daily civil and administrative justice needs worldwide. We intend that the globally comparable methodologies and data presented in this report provide a reliable, people-centred approach to understanding and monitoring access to civil justice at the national and global levels. Global Insights on Access to Justice 2019: Findings from the World Justice Project General Population Poll in 101 Countries presents data on how ordinary people around the world cope with their daily legal problems, highlighting the most common legal issues, respondents` assessment of their legal capacity, and sources of assistance. The study also highlights information about the state of people`s problems, the process of solving them, and the impact of their justice problems on their lives.
